HI.
Excellent forum with a lot of interesting projects. Passionate about turbines and some ongoing APU projects. I work in the industrial environment. Rather steam. Looking forward to it.

Hi, i am student currently studying bachelor's in electronics and communication engineering, having a background in computer engineering. Really interested in aeronautics and robotics, big fan of RC gas turbines/turbojets looking for some noobie knowledge. Hope the community gets bigger!

Hello. I had been searching this kind of forum for almost 5 years. Thanks admin for accepting me in this group. As an Aircraft Mechanic, im slightly aware on what are the functions of the low-bypass turbojet engine most of you guys build, but my downside is that i dont have any idea on the engineering side of this. Maybe you guys will satisfy my search on the proper computation and design of a turbojet engine. Thanks again

Hi all, this all feels a bit deja vu to me.
I built my first DIY jet about 20 years ago and am sure I used to be on the old Yahoo forum. Am sure I recognise some of the names! My first, well only, engine was based on an old HT-18S turbo off an RX7. I cobbled something together that amazingly ran despite many, many bad practices. I even had a moment of fame for a mostly tongue in cheek web site that got taken way too seriously, the jet powered beer cooler.
Back then there wasn't as much information about as now and lurking on the forum the last few weeks I am amazed at how far things have come and the progress that's been made with these engines. I plugged some numbers from my DIY jet into the JetSpecs program and it's incredible the thing worked at all! I still have it in it's final rebuilt form but I never got it running properly after my last modifications to it.
Back then I always wanted to make an engine that was more portable and self contained. Not for any useful thrust, just self sustaining and for making noise. At the time I even scoured junk yards for some smaller turbos but they were always knackered.
Recently I saw a YouTube video on MightCarMods where they were trying to fit a tiny, cheap turbo onto a postie bike. I looked up the RHB31 VZ21 knock-off turbo they used and they are silly cheap so I got one. Have no idea if it will work in a DIY jet. I suspect self sustaining is possible but no useful thrust. I'll give it a go. My last one worked despite all my failings so I am quietly (stupidly?) confident.
I did see someone else here was trying to get one to work a few years ago but they seemed to be going about it in far too serious a way and I honestly couldn't read through all they'd written in the posts in that thread. I wonder if they ever did a combustor test and got it working? When I built my first one with no knowledge at all even I knew testing the combustor by itself was probably a sensible idea.
My background is making things. Professionally I do software (test automation these days) but I dabble in all sorts of electronic and mechanical projects, 3D printing and in recent years building vintage cars. Current projects on the go are a 3D printed Enigma machine and a 1930 Riley 9 Brooklands car.
I have much more in the way of tools and skills now so even if I don't get something working it will be a fun little project. When I started I had basic hand tools and went to a night class to have access to a welder and a lathe and mill. Now I can do all that at home.
I probably won't post much but just wanted to say it's great seeing groups like this still around.
Simon

Hello. My Name is Josh. I have an automotive shop in Texas. I race dirt sprint cars, play with arduino micro controllers, I put on science demos for groups of kids. I have always loved jet engines. I recently purchased one on ebay. Its a S-03 polish built engine from 1981. I want to get it running on a stand for demos and just to have fun. I have a fabrication shop with mills and lathes allowing me to fab parts I cannot source. I am excited to have found this group. I am hoping to meet some people who can give me info about what I am getting into.
