Hi. As some of you suggested on recent posts, I have decided to first, make a jet engine to learn and power a 4-wheeler. The turbo I think I may use is a Garrett Airesearch TV6123. I found one at a good price and it looks decent.
As always, I like to get your guys' opinions to make sure I'm not doing anything ridiculous or stupid
Thanks John

How many horsepower should I expect to get from it? What would be a better choice for under 300$?
Thanks John

$300 is a very cheap turbo , so don't expect to push it very hard , horsepower potential for 0.9 lbs/sec flow could be anything from 20-60 hp , I think you'll need to design closer to the lower limit for a $300 turbo , a brand new quality turbo with that flow but costing $3,000 might be able to get the higher limit , but there are just so many variables its impossible to provide any meaningful answer without knowing them all .

My other options are a Caterpillar 3126 Turbocharger or a s400sx with 1.36 a/r

I just want to make a simple, powerful, 2 shaft turbine at home.

I'm aiming for as much power as possible. I'm tempted to just buy. Local airesearch unit with 125hp for 400. And go from there.. and for power turbine. That's why I came here.

As long as it works, horsepower isnt a big thing for me. Just looking for something cheap to get into jet engines and want a larger turbo

Why are you worried about the BW S471 in/ex sizes? Of your options it's the only one that actually has everything listed in the ad. Rest of them looks like antique and the first one doesn't even seem like a turbocharger to me. Run the numbers for a known turbo and go from there. Also note that if your intention is to add a freepower section later, is there any big enough radial turbine wheel you could use or does it require a complete custom unit with Allison wheel or similar and what's your budget for that?

So is the TV6123 or the S471 a bigger better turbocharger for a jet engine? Let me get a simple jet going before we need to worry about freepower.
