Hi Guys
Thought I'd start a Build Thread for the latest engine
.... the SKULD 666
A mixture of Nordic mythology and the occult ................
comprising a mans destiny ,
a 6.66 inch diameter "hole in the front",
and 6.66 lbs/sec mass flow .
Compressor wheel is a titanium billet first stage wheel from a Garrett TPE331 aero turboprop engine .............exducer diameter 9.2 inches with a 0.5 inch tip height , spinning at ~42,000 rpm with a 1,700 ft/sec tip speed for a 4:1 Pressure Ratio .
Turbine wheel is the axial second stage turb wheel of ~8.4 inch diameter.
Engine casing will be 14 inches OD with the engine overall length of ~18 inches .
Work to date ..............a bit of a scuffy plan drawn up on a sheet of cardboard to get the general dimensions of the engine and another for the diffuser layout to make sure flow areas etc won't cause choking .
Diffuser will have 18 wedges , the comp has 17 full length blades
I've just about got the wooden pattern made for the front compressor cover , it just needs its coats of sealing paint applied , will post some pics when painted .................its been a bugger to make as its 14.3 inch diameter is right on the limit of my lathes swing .
Will start on the diffuser pattern latter in the week , once completed I'll send them off for my mate Andrew to check over before getting them cast in alloy and heat treated .
Potential thrust ~400 lbs dry and 550 lbs wet :-)
Cheers
John
