Good walkthrough on the turbine cutting, I will most likely be very nervous while doing that manouver. Don´t want to wreck a wheel... I made the jet pipe today, turned out pretty well. A hole for a temp gauge will be drilled later. Spot welding the pipe to avoid a warped flange. After rubbing the welded pipe against my pants for a while it looked like this. Here is a pic with a caliper so you get a better idea of the size, I estimate the weight to be no more than that of a medium sized truck turbocharger (well that was accurate, wasn´t it... ;D) so I am more than satisfied. How much do your 10/98 weigh John? No doubt less than this one since I favoure thick mild steel while you built yours from thinner stainless but it would be interesting to know just how much it differs.

Hi Anders
Nice and shinny :-)
The 10/98 came in at ~19 Kgs , just light enough to be sent by Post , they have a 20 Kg limit .
The wheel cutting was pretty straightforward , just go slow and steady , I was kinda worried at first but it ended up easier than expected .
Cheers John

Damn... I got a drill just like that one.... If only I could wield that good.
Most impressed with this project, When are we starting it?

A bit of practice and you´ll be welding like champ in no time! I don´t really know how long it will take before it is ready to rumble, I have the combustor to build along with the fuel and preheat injectors, ignition and other stuff. When I am certain that there is no work left on the NGV section I will send it along with the turbine exducer cover away for cheramic coating, I have no idea how long that will take. If I can start the engine during the first part of the summer I am satisfied, it is then the real work begins with sorting out what needs improving and possibly rebuild some parts. The engine need to be completely sorted out before I begin building the power turbine section, so I will have my hands full this year.

it looks great! I dont know how you can resist at least running a leaf blower through it

We have a sturdy leaf blower for the jet kick that should perhaps give the jetpipe a feeling of what´s in store for it. Here is a pic of yours truly (with long hair, now I am down to 3mm and feeling great) performing a velocity test. I think I will try to get the driving licence picture changed to this one. ;D

You know....we ain't quite right around here. Anywhere else we would be locked up and called crazy.
I am getting the parachute packs tomorrow for the hearse. They are being made like a coffin, 1 for each side. I will get some pic's up on the hearse site by Sunday.

Well, if you had to chose between putting up a pleasant appearance every day and having tons of fun every day, I know what I would pick. ;D Looking forward to the Hearse update Earnie! John, just imagine the look on the brittish faces when hords of Swedish vikings looking like that came screaming up the beach from their boats. No wonder we were successful abroad at that time.

I weighed the engine today and the scale stopped at 14.9kg, this is without the combustor, air deflectors and fuel lines inside the engine so with everything in place it will weigh perhaps 16-17kg. Not bad.

Hi Anders Excellent weight :-) Cheers John Yeah, never thought it would be this light. It doesen´t really matter for the bikes performance but less mass means less heat stored in the engine after a run which is good.
